June 13th @ 7:00 PM @ Town Hall

Presentation on the Buffalo Psychiatric Center - Summary Below

("No Western New York landmark and its history is more misunderstood than Buffalo's own Richardson Olmsted Campus. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1986, the institution that opened in 1880 as the Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane, has inspired fear and awe in the public imagination for over 149 years. Mark Saglian, a volunteer docent and historian, will discuss aspects of its design and construction, its medical history, and the vital role it played in the betterment of the lives of persons with mental illness. Mark shares a unique, personal connection to the space and uses that connection to help tell the story of the birth, life, and subsequent re-birth of the 19th century masterpiece that is the Richardson Olmsted Campus.")
